During the first weekend of March me and few EVS and local volunteers decided for another hike. This time our destination was Tikvesh Lake (Тиквешко Езеро) – the biggest artificial lake in Macedonia (built in 1968) which lies about 12 km south-west of Kavadarci. Passing by a dumpster, vineyards and a forest we reached it within a couple of hours. The weather was excellent and the views were beautiful! The lake and surrounding mountains, the cracked ground which looked like a desert, royal blue sky… All this incredible beauty mixed with sadness and
a heartbreak while seeing the rubbish everywhere, plastic bags waving on bushes and a bony corpse of a dog on the top of the litter…
It’s said that the area around Tikvesh Lake is
a protected zone but sometimes it’s really hard
to believe it…
